Massoorie (Mansoorie)- Queen of Hills
Massoorie (Mansoorie) is a most popular hill station of Uttaranchal blessed with beauty and charm, is also known as ‘Queen of the Hills’. Massoorie is situated in the foothills of Himalaya ranges in the altitude of 2000meter. The Connected town of Landour Which includes a military cantonment, is deemed part of ‘Greater Massoorie’.
In 1825 Caption Young came here with his hunting team explored the place, he fascinated by the beauty of this place. Caption young fell in love with Massoorie and laid foundation of the resort. In 1827 a hospital was build at Landour, which later became large cantonment.
The name Massoorie derived from ‘Mansoor’ a shrub grown in this area. This place is also pronounce as Mansoorie.
Massoorie is famous for its salubrious climate and boarding schools. Britisher built up there cottages to spend time in weekend and boarding schools to provide missionary education for their children. Woodstock is famous Residential school of Massoorie. Mall road is main path in Massoorie; it stretches from Picture palace at its eastern end to Library in western end. During the Britishers, Indians were not allowed to walk in Mall road. Municipal Garden, Gun hill,Mussoorie lake, Children lodge, Bhatta Falls, Jharipani Fall, Mosey Fall, Himalaya weavers, Benog Mountain quail sanctuary, Van Chetna Kendra are places of interest where one could visit.
Bus route are well connected to Dehradun after that Taxis and local buses are available. Massoorie is just one hour from Dehradun. Nearest airport is in Jolly Grant, Dehradun and nearest Railway station is also in Dehradun.
