Pandav Nritya
In the local language it is known as PANDO NAACH. Pandav Nritya is related to story of Mahabharata. This Dance describes the story of Mahabharata in form of song and dance. This Dance performed on the occasion of Dassehra and Diwali. Pandav Nritya is popular in Chamoli and Pauri Gharwal.
Jhumela or Chaunphula
Jhumela is a form of dance in which group of men and women dance in a spinning way. Chaunphla are composed for the appreciation of nature. This dance perfomed from from ‘Basant Panchami’ to ‘Sankranti’ or ‘Baisakhi’.
Langvir Nritya
Langvir dance is popular dance of Tehri region in which men folk fixed bamboo pole in a place and climb on it and balance himself on his stomach. Under the pole a band of musician play Dhol and Damana while the dancer rotates on the top of the pole.
Bhotiya Tribal folk dance
Bhotiya tribal dance is related to death ceremony .The Bhotiya tribe believes that after death soul transfer to animal and the intention of the dance is to release the soul of the death person by that animal.
Barada Nati
This main dance of Jaunsar Bhawar. Baradi Nati is performed during all festive occasion of Jaunsar Bhawar. During festival people wear the Thalka or Lohiya, is a long coat. Both girls and boys wear traditional colorful clothes.

Badrinath doors (Kapats) closed for winter today at 2:45 PM. During winters Lakshmi will be also with Prabhu Vishnu in the Sanctum of main temples. Rest of the gods along with Udhhav, Juber etc. will reside at Pandukeshwar in Dhyan Badri temple and will be worshiped till the doors are opened once again during summers next year.
State Chief Minister Shri B. C. Khanduri was available during the closing ceremony along with Mr. Ramesh Pokhariyal, Mr. Kedar Singh Fonia and others with a huge crowd of some 5000 + devootees. All the rituals were performed by Main Pandit Shri Badri Prasad Nambudari.

White water rafting at shivpuri
Shivpuri in Uttaranchal is famous for white water rafting. Rafting and adventure sports enthusiasts come over this place round the year for various activities. The best part about this place is, this is pretty near to Delhi and usually people come here on weekends. This is known best place for rafting in the country.
Shivpuri is approximately 30 KMs from Rishikesh and is in a valley. There are numerous rafting camps located at the bank of river Ganga, most of the camps are having their offices in Delhi and bookings for the camps can be done beforehand.
There are approximately 36 rapids ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 4, which are undertaken in the guidance of the trained rafters. These rapids are named as Black Money, Cross fire, three blind mice, body surfing, roller coaster, daniels dip, double trouble, T-off, Club House, Black Money.

Camp at Shivpuri
People of all ages starting from 10 to 50 can go for rafting; this is pretty safe and adventures. One doesn’t needs to be a trained swimmer. The camp organizers are professional and they provide the best of the facilities and security systems to all rafters.
The season Start in mid September and continues until April end, before summers.

Monal
Monal is a beautiful Himalayan bird possessing nine colors in itself. Bird with a shrill whistle voice inhabits in cool temperature altitude from 2500meter to 5000 meters Monal prefers open meadows spreading in the Oak and Conifer forest. In winter it is found in low altitude. Monal is symbolizing state bird of Uttarakhand and is also known as Lophophorus Impejanus.
Male Monal is more beautiful are in stunning color and large in size. Weight of a Monal is between to 2kg to 3kg. Having nine striking color head is of green color, eye area turquoise, neck is combination of red, yellow and metallic green color, body is of blue and white and under parts is black, and tale in copper red color. These birds slightly look like peacock. Female Monal reflects little dull than male.
Monal breeds only once in a year in the month of April to August.These are seen usually seen in pairs. Monal is an endangered species and is included in Wild Life Protection act of 1972.The number of these species is declining because of its beautiful feathers it is target of hunters. Skins of these birds are used as showpiece by filling hay, People kills these birds to eat and native of Himachals used its feathers for their caps. Wild life act take a back seat and killing these birds is in way of diappear.

Musk Deer
Musk Deer is the state animal of Uttakhand found in area above 3500mt on the Himalayas. Native call it as Kasturi Mrig and scientific name of this animal is Moschus Chrysogaster. This is a rare animal which inhabits in the dense forest of Deodar and fir.
The endangered Kastruri Mrig is not only beautiful animal but its “Kasturi” is used in approximately 150 Ayurvedic and allopathic medicines. Kasturi (musk) is expensive aromatic fluid which is produce by a gland present near its naval.
Musk deer is a small and shy animal around 13 to 15kg, without antlers, which is at risk to come an end. Indian Wildlife board include Kasturi mrig in. an endandered animal with other 12 species in the year 1952. Efforts are made to save this animal after passing the law Wild life preservation act. In 1972 Kedarnath Musk deer sanctuary is located in the Kedarnath region in Rudraprayag district. .This sanctuary is set up to protect the animal and forest of the Panch Kedar belt. This sanctuary covers an area about 967.2 sq km. This sanctuary includes Snow leopard, Snow Cock, Tahr, Leopard and lot of species of birds. A project funded by WWF in the years 1978 and 1980 was undertaken in this sanctuary, on the research of Musk deer. A Musk deer breeding farm in Kanchulakhark is to stimulate the breed of Musk deer. Environment is made like natural forest. Water and salt is providing to these deers.
Musk deer likes to be in pairs. These are very shy animal and hide when heard even a mutter. Musk deer are vulnerable, and are in very less number and are in the state of nonexistence.

Brahma Kamal is the state flower of Uttaranchal and the scientific name of Brahma kamal is Saussurea Obvallata. Brahma kamal is off white flower which known a variety of cactus. The fragrance of this flower is intense. This flower blooms at the upper limit of high altitude (3000mt to 4000mt) in the midst of rocks where the snow never melts and it blooms in the midnight and shrink till morning, believed to be lucky to see it when it blooms.
There is a legend behind this flower that during the exile of Pandavas stay at Pandukeshwar. One day while Druapadi (wife of Pandavs) were bathing in the Alaknanda river, she saw a beautiful white flower in the current of river and it vanished suddenly. Draupadi requested Bhim to search for flower, when Bhim brought that flower she worshiped the God by this flower.
The Brahma Kamal named after Lord Brahma (creator of universe).This flower known as a spiritual flower among the natives of Garhwal. This is flower which is offer to lord Vishnu at Badrinath dham. In the month of September-October during festival of Nanda Ashtami this flower is offered in the temples and Brahm Kamal is dispersed as Prasad. To offer this flower to goddess Nanda,m local young boys go to the high mountains in the midnight and pluck the flower. This is an auspicious flower which is also used in medicines.
Brahma Kamal mostly found in the Panchkedar, Sahstratal, Nandikund, Kedarnath, Valley of flowers, Satopant etc. Indian Postal department has also issue a stamp with Brahm Kamal photograph to in honor of the flower.

Lakhamandhal is situated in Jaunsar in Dehradun district.Lakhamandal village is situated 125km from Dehradun via Herbertpur and 111km from via Masoorie.
Lakhamandal is attraction for archeological as well as religious purpose. In the time of Mahabharata when Pandavas was in exile period of 12 year, It is belived that Shakti had given Pandavas space to live here and also leave the prints of her foot on a rock. But Duryodhan conspired to burn the Pandavas alive so he made a palace of Lakhsa (Lac) which is burnt easily. But Pandavas escaped with the help of Lord Krishna and Goddess Shakti through the tunnel. That is why this place is known as Lakhamandal (altered name of Lakhshamandal).
There are various sign of Pandavads, which proof that they lived here. The locals of Lakhamandal village pretend them the descendant of pandavas. So the tradition of Polygamy and Polyandry is still there. The Dance Pandava Nritya is main dance which is played during the festivals, it shows the epic of Mahabharata. Local of this place believe in Atithi Devo Bhavo(Guest is God).
There is a Lord Shiva - Shakti temple and shiny black stone Shivligam in which one can see full Image while offering water on it. Another Mythological story behind this temple is that Lord Shiva used grant life to people after death for some time to apologize for sins and make worship.But one day a lady requested Lord Shiva to give life to her child for sometime. When Lord Shiva grant life to child the lady hide his child in his lap and Lord Shiva could not get back the life the child. So lord Shiva stopped this practice after that. It is also known as the holy place of Shiva.
This Place is also famous for archeological purpose. This spot is rich with Ancient temples, sculptures and inscriptions. There are around 150 stone engraved figures which are discovered, some dating from as early as fourth to fifth century A.D. Some historian believes that Lakhamanadal had been renowned center of the sculpture creation in fifth century AD. This place is under Archeological department of government to conserve our ancient history.
